In 2004, Dan benched a huge 287.5kg at Bench Worlds, placing fifth and setting the provincial and national record. The provincial record would stand until the records were retired with the new weight classes in 2011. Dan competed at CPU nationals many times over the years and earned many medals, with a good collection of golds in bench only.
