If you intend to lift at the Provincial Championships, the following requirements need to be met:

Any athlete wishing to lift at their FIRST SPA Provincial Championship must qualify by recording a total in a lower level SPA sanctioned in person competition (ie., recording a three lift total shall qualify the athlete for three lift and bench only, and recording a bench only total qualify the athlete for bench only.) Athletes must have an active CPU membership prior to registration.

Athletes who have PREVIOUSLY lifted at Provincial Championships are eligible and must have an active CPU membership prior to registration.


If you intend to lift at a Regional Championships, the following requirement needs to be met:

Any athlete wishing to lift at a Regional Championship must qualify by attain the qualifying total as specified in the CPU Constitution and Bylaws for your respective Age and Weight classes. Athletes must have an active CPU Elite membership prior to registration.

Volunteering or participating at the Provincial Championships is not a requirement to be eligible for Regional Championships. However, if you intend to compete at CPU National Championships, you will need to fulfill this requirement (see below.)


If you intend to lift at the Canadian Powerlifiting Union National Championships, you must have an Elite membership and the additional requirements need to be met to be eligible:

If you HAVE competed at CPU Nationals before, you need to do the following: ⁣
1) Attain the qualifying total as specified in the CPU Constitution and Bylaws for your respective Age and Weight classes.
2) Be considered an “Active Participant” of the sport, which is defined as one of the following: ⁣
a) Someone who has competed or volunteered at the Saskatchewan Provincial Championships in the year preceding the National Championship.

      • Volunteering is considered any activity which can be assigned by a meet director or SPA executive member, which is needed to be able to hold a meet. Coaching is not considered volunteering.
      • If a competitor applies for an exemption from the above 2.a. to be able to participate in CPU Nationals, the competitor must submit their application at least one month prior to the current year’s provincial championships, and in his/her application, must identify:
        • Reason for exemption as it pertains to 2.a.
        • Previous year’s competition and volunteering history.

b) someone who meet directs or co-meet directs a provincial or higher level championship within the previous 12 months; ⁣OR
c) other as determined by the SPA Executive. ⁣

If you HAVE NOT competed at CPU Nationals before, you need to do the following: ⁣
1) Achieve your Regional qualifying total⁣
2) Compete in a Regional Championship (Westerns, Easterns, or Centrals)
3) Attain the qualifying total as specified in the CPU Constitution and Bylaws for your respective Age and Weight classes. (this can be done before you compete at Regionals as well)⁣
4) Be considered an “Active Participant” of the sport, which is defined as one of the following: ⁣
a) Someone who has competed or volunteered at the Saskatchewan Provincial Championships in the year preceding the National Championship.

b) someone who meet directs or co-meet directs a provincial or higher level championship within the previous 12 months; ⁣ ⁣OR
c) other as determined by the SPA Executive. ⁣⁣
